Interchange-Plus Pricing Explained

The most transparent way to price card processing — broken down into the three parts that make up every transaction.

Interchange

The non-negotiable fee set by Visa, Mastercard, and others that goes to the card-issuing bank. It varies by card type (debit, rewards, corporate).

Assessments

A small fee paid to the card networks themselves. Also fixed and the same for every processor.

The "Plus" (markup)

The transparent margin your processor adds — a fixed percentage and per-transaction fee. This is the only part that should differ between providers.

In short: Interchange + Assessments are the same no matter who you use. The only thing you're really shopping for is the "plus."
